It now seems Kollywood is looking at Bollywood for inspirational themes. After the successful remake of A Wednesday in Tamil as Unnaipol Oruvan by Kamal Haasan, came Kandein Kadhalai, a scene-to-scene redo of Jab We Met.

After scaling peaks with Enthiran, director Shankar has gone back to remake the Hindi hit Three Idiots in Tamil as Nanban. Vijay replaces Aamir Khan in the movie. Also Silambarasan is playing the callous cop in a movie that is an remake of Dabbang. UTV Productions is planning a remake of Madhur Bhandarkar's popular Hindi hit Fashion, a movie based on the struggles of a wannable model.

Why Bollywood movies? Says a producer, ' it is a safe bet to remake a successful movie. Also the themes are universal. What's wrong in doing them'.

Echoing the same, a film distributor says, 'there is dearth for stories. Also the trend is seasonal. A few months ago, Telugu movies were remade in Tamil. Now Hindi. Also many Tamil movies like Vinnai Thaandi Variuvaya and SIngam are being done in Hindi Cinema ,is beyond language barriers'.
